okowa with salmon and bamboo shoots.
There are some old mochi rice(glutinous rice) yet, so that I've cooked okowa with salmon, bamboo shoots, abura-age(made from soy beans), and zenmai(wild vegetables). You shouldn't use old rice whatever you can give flavor to it. The okowa made with old mochi rice is more like takikomi-gohan(steamed usual rice).

okowa
Okowa is a Japanese steamed mochi rice(sticky rice). people use ingredients they want. I've added bamboo shoots, shrimps, ground pork, shimeji mushroom, little celery, and salted sakura petals. the rice was bit old, my mother forgot it for a couple of year.. So the okowa is less sticky as usual. it became more like pilaf. but not bad taste at all.

cherry blossom viewing 2007
We've enjoyed cherry blossom viewing. kinda picnic. It's a nicer picnic day than last year. It was quite hot as Spring. Many people enjoyed this cherry blossom viewing.
I've brought okowa, rose wine, and Japanese sweets. It was the first time to cook Okowa though, it wasn't bad. I added salated sakura petal in Okowa. One of Us took a nice nap. I should've taken a nap too.
It's never concern to blossom viewing. My niece got this funny toy as her own souvenir in Hokkaidou, Marimokkori.
